EXPERTS: Ditch IE

For some time experts have been warning that there are unacceptibly large security holes in Microsoft’s web browser, Internet Explorer (MSIE). I myself have been aware of these warnings for years and am not using MSIE, significantly because of these reasons.

After reading the reports, I suggest that you consider ditching it as well.

If you’re looking for an alternative, you might check out the current iteration of the Mozilla browser (the core of Netscape) at www.mozilla.org. It has lots of cool extensions that enhance its functionality.

You also might check out the Opera browser.

I've been using Mozilla and now Firefox since Mozilla Milestone 16 or something like that some many years ago. I'm very happy to see Mozilla all grown up and getting wide acceptance. It truly is an exceptional web browser minus the security problems of IE and Outlook.

I recently switched to Firefox, following my friend Jeff Miller's good example. While I am still exploring its features, I'm favorably impressed.
One aspect I enjoy is Firefox's ability to check periodically on other blogs of interest and my chance to choose the manner in which I am alerted of changes for each blog.
I think I'll try Thunderbird as I have had persistent problems of quirkiness with Outlook.

Just another me too post.
I've been using Moziila for a couple of years, and switched to Firefox about six months ago. Great products.
The best part is that pop-up blocking is built-in to both products. No third-party programs to buy.

Firefox is a lighter weight, better version of Mozilla. It can also be obtained at the mozilla.org site. They also have Thunderbird, which is an email client. Microsoft Outlook is just as insecure as IE is, so I advise Windows users to switch to both Firefox and Thunderbird and ditch IE and Outlook.
I only use Windows when I have to develop software for clients that insist upon Windows. When I do, I only use Firefox for web browsing. I'm normally running Linux, not Windows, but I use Firefox and Thunderbird as my web and email clients on Linux, too. They're that good.

I hear a lot of people are switching to Firefox, and they say it's good.
I'm using Safari on my brand new iBook G4!

Good recommendation, Jimmy. You can get either the full Mozilla, with email client, composer, etc., or just Mozilla Firefox, which is the browser only. Using the full Mozilla is a good idea, because Outlook Express is also full of holes and poorly designed, security-wise.
The more people stop using IE, the safer they will be, and the safer the people still using IE will be, because of the elimination of the monoculture which is currently encouraging all these exploits.
