Force-Feeding Dolphins

In case you ever wondered whether our society treats animals better than it does human beings, wonder no more:

You see, "force-feeding" humans via feeding tubes who never legally directed that they be deprived of food and water is a Bad Thing. In some cases, even when written directives are left that allow for "force-feeding," it is a Good Thing to deprive humans of feeding tubes anyway. But what happens if Flipper cannot swallow? Do we do the "humane" thing and deprive him of nutrition? Of course not! Dolphins require much better treatment than what we currently consider to be good enough for humans:

"In early March an estimated 80 rough-toothed dolphins stranded themselves in the shallows off Marathon in the Florida Keys.

"Rescue workers and volunteers worked nonstop to help as many as they could to return to deep water. Some dolphins made it. About two dozen died.

"For 26 that clung to life there was only one chance for survival — transfer to the Marine Mammal Conservancy rehabilitation facility on Key Largo, farther up the Keys from Marathon.

[…]

"In the pool [where the recuperating dolphins were kept], volunteers hold the dolphins and keep their blowholes out of the water so they can breathe.

"A veterinarian injects the mammals with vitamin E to help with muscle cramping. Unable to eat on their own, they are fitted with a feeding tube to get them the needed nutrition."

And so, roughly around the same period that Terri Schiavo was being dehydrated and starved to death by a Florida state judge’s fiat, the great state of Florida was inserting feeding tubes into dolphins.

God have pity on us.

  1. You think THAT is bad? Get a load of this…
In the People’s Republic of Oregon over the last few years, we had a few large wildland/forest fires. Some salvage companies wanted to go in and harvest what remained of the dead trees. Our Supreme Court, with wisdom of which Solomon himself would be envious, declared that any trees that were damaged and dying couldn’t be cut down until they had died…as if they could all gather ’round the EKG and wait until the flat-line comes.
So just to review: Oregon is staunchly pro-life and absolutely opposed to hastening death…as long as we’re talking about trees. Now if you’re talking about something as trivial as humans, that’s another story.

“Be a hero: SAVE THE WHALES!!! Save a baby, GO TO JAIL.”
    Whee!!!
Our Culture has been deemed by the representitive of Christ on earth to be a culture of DEATH… (Can’t deny THAT…)
We care more about whales and endangered species of butterflies than our own kind… (Oh. Terri died and — WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH THAT DOG?!)
Open immorality everywhere…(this is why I don’t watch any TV)
NO moral laws that anyone cares about…’you do what you want, but don’t you DARE impress your views on me!!’ (Yeah? Why should I care about your imposition of your ‘beliefs’ in the form of America’s laws on me? Why I don’t break every one and defend it with my ‘religious’ beliefs? Should your laws dicate my will? If that’s the precedent you’re setting, than…)
Separation of Church and State = No church in state. (Wrong. The American Constitution was founded on the Christian moral laws. And the implicit moral law of mankind. Oh, and did I fail to mention that Atheism is a religion? Devoid of religious beliefs is a religious belief in and of itself. Good Bog.)
‘Popularaty’ and ‘coolness’ more important than education and other such virtues. (Being a teenager, not even going to comment. ‘Popular’ is a detestable concept.)
In conclusion, the world is going to heck.
Whee!!! It’s the Apocalypse! (mabye it is, huh? Think about it.)
Good Bog what is this world coming too?

  3. Yep. Often I work with “dummy-” comatose- foals.
They have nasal-gastro feeding tubes as well as respirators, among other things.
I wish we treated our fellow man as well as we do the animals.

  4. Where will we be in say 50 years. Will we learn from this or tunnel further into PC hell where trees and animals have more “rights” than humans. I pray we learn.

  5. Interesting. Not a ton of value is being placed on human life/dignity any more.
Its a satisfying thing (sort of) to see every other orginization follow along with the culture of death, and then to see the Catholic chuch, the rock, steady and not giving any ground.
    HUZZAH!
