We don't need to know who the orthodox cardinals are to pray for them. Just pray. God will know.
And remember that the Holy Spirit will not let a Pope teach falsehood.

Really? I heard that Bill Clinton wanted it just in case he didn't get to be the head of the UN.

Wouldn't it be cool if the mystery cardinal was an undercover priest working in Mecca?

please don't let him be a socialist, please don't let him be a socialist . . .

If he's Chinese, then revealing his name will cause him and anyone he associates with or ministers to to face torture and possibly death by inhumane measures.
It would then be very dangerous for us to speculate who was selected before Rome is good and ready to make it known. For the sake of the innocent suffering, we must exercise prudence.

Canon 351 §3 sez:
"When the Roman Pontiff has announced the selection of a person to the dignity of cardinal but reserves the name of the person in pectore, the one promoted is not bound in the meantime by any of the duties of cardinals nor does he possess any of their rights. After the Roman Pontiff has made his name public, however, he is bound by the same duties and possesses the same rights; he possesses the right of precedence, though, from the day of reservation in pectore."
If JPII left the name in a document so as to make it public after his death (e.g., because he wanted to make sure the guy got a chance to vote in the conclave) then that would seem to count as the pope making the name public. I don't think anybody would challenge it if the authenticity of the document was not in doubt.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought canon law stated that if a cardinal is made "in pectore" but the name isn't revealed when the pope dies, then that he doesn't count as a cardinal?
