Here at Catholic Answers we’re getting reports that the pope has indeed passed.

Still trying to verify this from other sources.

If you have any, please leave them in the combox.

Either way, let’s pray for his soul and for the Church.

Out of the depths I call to you, LORD;
Lord, hear my cry! May your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.
If you, LORD, mark our sins, Lord, who can stand?
But with you is forgiveness and so you are revered.
I wait with longing for the LORD, my soul waits for his word.
My soul looks for the Lord more than sentinels for daybreak. More than sentinels for daybreak,
let Israel look for the LORD, For with the LORD is kindness, with him is full redemption,
And God will redeem Israel from all their sins.

It's official.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
In Jesu et Maria,

Soon, we will lose the greatest mortal man of this century. A sad day.

A link with a complimentarary explanation of the process after a pope's death. Includes some glossary items which are very helpful.

"'The Pope is conscious. This morning he celebrated Mass. I was there and he recalled that today was Friday, the day when one usually recites the Stations of the Cross. He asked that the 14 Stations of the Cross be read to him. He followed the readings attentively,' he said."
Faithful to his duties to the end.

Is it not fitting that this great peope should die before or on the feast of Divine Mercy?

Fox News has also retracted the death announcement.

cnn.com has an update that reads: AP: The Vatican denies reports in Italian media that Pope John Paul II has died.
It doesn't have anything further.

Latest word: reports of death seem to be premature....

FWIW, CNN.com briefly had a banner announcing that Italian news media were reporting this and that CNN was trying to confirm it, but they took it down several minutes ago without further comment. ***COULD*** mean that they DISconfirmed it??

Raymond Arroyo announced it on EWTN.
