    The “Charlie Brown Christmas” was a staple at our house from the year it came out, when I was, I dunno, 9 or 10. But I had not seen the later one, from the early 90s, till just this year. I was shocked at how shallow, boring, and insipid it was. Even Sally keeps interupting Linus as he tries, with no feeling, to get through the Nativity narrative in a hollow hommage to his 1960s heart-stopping rendition. Don’t let your kids watch the 90s version, not if you want them to understand the magic that was (sadly, emphasis on “was”) Peanuts.
