NEW ENCYCLICAL! NEW ENCYCLICAL! NEW ENCYCLICAL!

GET THE STORY!

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. Heeeeeeee! I would host it but since I was billed for online storage on the 17th, I haven’t heard back from the place that my account is in order yet! Grrr. I’ll get back to you if it gets sorted out if nobody else has offered yet.

  2. I’m excited, but frustrated, because I will not have time to sit down, read and digest this for at least a couple of days.
I look forward to your distillation of the document, Jimmy, as well as your thoughts on it’s influence.

  3. I feel your pain Tim. I got a final tomorrow, so I won’t be able to read it until Friday. It’ll make for a great weekend tho! 🙂

  4. Just finished reading it. Excellent stuff. the first part is heavy into the philosophical ideas of love, and the second part really defines the proper exercise of charity at both the personal and state level.
Marxists will not like this one..

  5. I guess it was more the pope talking about what inspired him to write the encyclical, even though he didn’t mention Dante in it.

  6. In case anyone’s wondering about my first post: Jimmy was appealing to people for hosting space for the mp3 and I was responding to that. Later he edited that part out, presumably once he found a host.
