More Action On The SSPX

EXCERPT:

According to Vatican sources, Pope Benedict XVI has scheduled an unplanned meeting with the presidents of the different Vatican dicasteries, at which he will discuss reforms of the Curia and relations with the Saint Pius X, Lefebvrist schism.

The extraordinary April 7th meeting announcement comes after an ordinary meeting which took place last month, at which the Holy Father asked the dicastery heads about universal approval of the Missal of St. Pius V, the rite which was in force prior to Vatican II.

During this unusual second meeting, the Pontiff is expected to solicit opinions about what to do with the Missal of St. Pius V and about a possible canonical formula for re-incorporating the followers of the schismatic Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre into the Church.

  1. We need to pray every day for the Church to be one.
The story below shows what a long hard road it will be to reconciliation.
Vatican has replaced faith, SSPX bishop charges
Mar. 18 (CWNews.com) – A bishop of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) has said that he and Vatican officials “belong to two different religions.”

  2. Quote from ELC: How is an “unplanned” meeting “scheduled”?
It’s called anticipating the unexpected! So modern American Business-speak is working its way into the religious press, I see…

  3. Universal approval of the St Pius V missal? Sweet!! Maybe we can get some TLMs in places other than the most inaccessible corner of the diocese…

  4. Any word on the thoughts of folks in the Pius V Society? Which I believe is an off shoot of SSPX. I am curious how they might feel about SSPX possibly making ammends with the Church.

  5. Are all SSPX groups/members schismatics, or are just certain individuals within these groups?
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_St._Pius_X (admittedly not a wholly reliable source):
Though the Holy See declared the 1988 consecrations a schismatic act, it does not view SSPX as constituting a schismatic Church, but has stated that some SSPX members are personally schismatic.
Can anyone verify or refute the veracity of this wiki entry?

  6. As far as I know, only Archbishop Lefebvre, the bishop who performed the consecrations with him and the four bishops who were consecrated were declared by JPII (“Ecclesia Dei Adflicta”) to have performed a schismatic act. However, various Church figures have warned that people adhering to the SSPX over a long period can, in time, develop a schismatic mentality. I must say that, although I have a lot of sympathy with the SSPX and have been greatly helped by some of its priests over the years, I see a very negative attitude towards the rest of the Church in many of its adherents which seems at odds with its claims to profess filial allegiance to the Pope etc.
Personally I hope and pray that B16 (who has himself celebrated Mass in the traditional rite on several occasions in the past two decades) loosens up the restrictions it. I attend an Indult TLM, and at the one in my home town there are often four priests up on the altar. Three of those priests could be saying the Mass somewhere else, but no – the archbishop thinks this could be “divisive” or something. Let’s hope the restrictions are saying the TLM are loosened and that our brethren in the SSPX return to full communion with the rest of the Church.

  7. The days of humiliating, offending, shunning and ridiculing Traditionalists like the Fraternal Society of St. Pius X, and the millions who sympathize with Orthodox Roman Catholicism both in Eccesia Dei and outside are fast coming to an end. One has only to look and see which areas of the faith are growing and which are in decline. Traditionalist seminaries are filled to overflowing (turning away) new candidates for lack of room.Traditionalist Abbeys, Friary’s and other monasteries of Nuns and monks are experienceing phenomonal growth, youth are flocking to the Tridentine Mass codified at Trent and grown organically over 1500 years. The post vatican 2 church is diametrically in decline. Our New Pontiff Benedict 16 recognizes this and senses the movement of the Holy Ghost in Orthodox Traditionalist Catholic-Christianity. The days of the masons, leftist and reactionary liberal-liturgical experimenter is coming to and end.Deo Gratia

  8. Bishop Fellay told his interviewer that SSPX leaders believe that they are fulfilling a crucial need for the Catholic Church, by “safeguarding what is first and foremost the patrimony of the universal Church.” He said that SSPX leaders are not deterred by the decrees of excommunication issued by the Vatican, “to which we never ascribed any canonical validity.”

Can. 16 . The legislator (pope) authentically interprets laws as does the one to whom the same legislator has entrusted the power of authentically interpreting.
Can. 333 ß1 By virtue of his office, the Roman Pontiff not only has power over the universal Church, but also has pre‚eminent ordinary power over all particular Churches and their groupings. This reinforces and defends the proper, ordinary and immediate power which the Bishops have in the particular Churches entrusted to their care.
ß3 There is neither appeal nor recourse against a judgment or a decree of the Roman Pontiff.

  9. So is there any word about the meeting that was to have taken place 4/7? I’ve done a quick Google and found nothing. Is there any information out there?

  10. It has been a while since the meeting between Pope Benedict 16 & the (not so schismatic) Society of St. Pius X. Moderates, conservative-novus ordo, and Orthodox Roman Catholics look forward to the day of reconciliation and regularization of relations between the Vatican and the flagship of Orthodox Catholic Christianity. Pauline/Bugnini /novus ordo missae adepts dread the day when orthodoxy will again have some influence in the Halls of the Vatican.Sadly to date a majority of the OLD MEN in the college of Cardinals remain reactionary 1960’s style anti-Tridentine & anti progressive Orthodoxy.Until these old men die off and the Patriarch of Rome begins giving the red cap (Kippa) to Orthodox-Traditionalists we will remain stuck in the revisionism of the post vatican 2 sixties. The demographics are there, young Catholics are rediscovering their culture and heritage and it’s not the Masonic Archbishop bugnini’s novus ordo mass of paul 6.More than once I’ve heard it said by Catholic young people after experiencing a Traditional/Orthodox/Latin/Tridentine Mass, (Is this really Catholic, why did they get rid of it, it’s awesome)and the superlatives in reference to the Orthodox Mass just keep rolling on as more and more Catholics are introduced or reintroducted to the pre-vatican 2 Divine Liturgy known as the Tridentine Mass. Shalom-Pacem

  12. Schismatic’s heretics & apostates throughout history must be “rollin in estasy” in their graves at the dummying down, protestanization of the Latin Catholic Church in the 1960’s,70’s 80’s & 90’s. Especially the so-called novus ordo mass. Luther, Cranmer, Calvin & Knox, Fat Henry the 8th & sundry Knostic’s & most specially the freemasons would be delighted to know the heresy’s they spawn came to fruition, under the reigns of John 23, Paul 6 & John Paul 2, these Popes are not to blame but hundreds of years of attack on the Catholic Church culminated in their reigns,in their papacy’s The Bugnini/freemason corrupts have crept into the Divine Litury, so-called ecumenicism, collegiality (aka rule by prelates not the Pope), dummied down cathechism, How many latin catholics are aware of the Real Presence????????? and the list go’s on and on. Cookie masses clown masses, guitar masses, gay masses, feminist masses witch masses salgood, but don’t you “DARE” try celebrating a Tridentine Mass, God Forbid. John 23 let the stench of Satan in when he called for an un-necessary council, Paul 6 gave us Annabale bugnini’s Cranmerian Anglican mess & good ole John Paul 2 gave us the travesty and blasphamy’s that occurred at Assissi and turned a blind eye to the sacriledge of pagan hindu ceremonies performed at the Shrine of Fatima. Not to mention JP2 kissing the foul koran. How long these things go on is really not up to any human, Pope or pauper but Almighty GOD himself. The Hebrews wandered for 40 years in the desert and just maybe the wandering of the Catholic Church will soon end too God willing. When the Sacred Tridentine Liturgy is seen front and center in St. Peters celebrated by the Pope, when tabernacles are returned are a central focus in all Catholic churches, when nuns priests, monks again begin to act and dress like nuns monks and priest, when the disgusting abuses of the sacred host recieved in the hand are forbidden when we again have real sanctuaries and alter girls and eucharistic ministers are a thing of the distant past then just maybe the Good God is again smiling on his beloved Catholic Church, guess it all comes down to repentance, humility and remaining quiet and listening to the Lord. When these things begin to happen then the beginning of the restoration is at hand and Christ will rule his church not modernities humanist/modernist, revisionist liberalism. Shalom/Pacem

  13. I’m just a little off topic here but today 14th July 2006 the reactionaries in the Vatican again reared their ugly head and (of course) condemnd Isreal for the hostilities that recently errupted in the middle east.No the vatican did not condemn the fascist hamas and the other fanatic muslim cult hesbollah or their masters in Iran & Syria, nope,” blame the Jews ” for all of it. As an Orthodox Traditionalist Roman Catholic I strongly believe it is anathema for a Catholic Christian to be an anti-semite. To hate Jews for a Catholic is as to hate Christ, period. The 60’s geriatric basket cases that still control ever dicastery in the Vatican felt compelled to make a blanket condemnation of Isreal, kinda forgetting the 60 years of murder, suicide bombings, shelling and mass murder committed on Isreal by every fanatic Mohammadanist state in the near east. The Vatican should be ashamed of it’s not so well hidden anti-semitism and purge it once and for all from Catholic body politics. But what can you expect when the same minesets that presently run europe also run the Vatican apparatchnik—- Pacem

  14. I’ll hope that someone will please correct me if I’m wrong, but to my (Just Plain Ol’ Rather Traditional and Awfully Orthodox Catholic) knowledge, only the Pope may rightfully use the word “anathema”.
Also, yes, our young people were greatly inspired as well as invited and welcomed by the Supreme Pontiff JP II, who was as traditional and orthodox as could be. Many vocations have been pouring forth, of truly traditional and orthodox Catholicism, praise God.

  15. Hey sweety aka honora, the Pope does not have a monopoly on the use of words and that includes ANATHEMA DAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
