Ron Howard Endorses Boycott Of Da Vinci Code!

Ron_howardHe also encouraged outraged Christians to pre-judge his movie without seeing it first!

Yes! It’s true!

According to the Associated Press:

"There’s no question that the film is likely to be upsetting to some people," Howard told reporters. "My advice, since virtually no one has really seen the movie yet, is to not go see the movie if you think you’re going to be upset. Wait. Talk to somebody who has seen it. Discuss it. And then arrive at an opinion about the movie itself" [SOURCE].

So there you have it!

Ron Howard encourages people who might be upset to "not go see the movie" and, instead, wait and rely on the opinions of others to "arrive at an opinion about the movie itself" without seeing it first!

You really have to hand it to him for throwing in his lot with the boycotters and those who want to pre-judge his movie like that.

I mean, it would have been so easy for Howard to do what most directors would do and say something like, "These people calling for boycotts are absurd. They haven’t even seen the movie. How can they know whether it’s offensive or not? I’d encourage everyone to go out and see the movie and then decide for themselves what they think about it. I think they’ll like what they see!"

Yessirree, Bob! No typical Hollywood spin from Mr. Ron Howard on this one! He’s encouraging people to boycott his film and to form opinions about it without seeing it!

Maybe there’s a little Mayberry left in him after all.

  1. The film is based on a book which is a vile anti-Catholic, anti-Christian screed. By all accounts, Howard has produced a painfully literal adaptation of that book, with a few scenes of the Inquisition and witch burnings thrown in for good measure.
What more do we need to know? Certainly we don’t need to see the thing know that it is offensive to Catholics who take their Faith seriously.

  2. Weird. Coupled with his alleged remarks to the Italian press and his almost manic attempt to appear nonchalant about the whole thing on Leno, his behavior seems to support the idea that he is of two minds about the DVC movie.
    He appears to be struggling.
On the one hand, he couldn’t resist such a monster project. The money and notariety attached to the movie would have to be enormous.
On the other hand, through the process he seems to have been wilfully blind to the fact that the film would be extremely offensive to many millions of people. Perhaps he convinced himself (through repetition, and with the aid of some very large checks) of what he has been telling everyone else… that IT’S JUST A MOVIE.
But now that the actual work is being judged by others, he seems uncomfortable with it. Now he has to live with the consequences, has to explain himself, and can only wait and watch to see what may happen to his reputation.
He seems like a nice (somewhat shallow) guy who got caught up in selling his talents out to the highest bidder. Now, he may be having second thoughts.
You can’t make a film that calls Jesus a fairy tale (and a pernicious and evil one, at that) and then turn around and say that you were only kidding and really didn’t mean to hurt any feelings.
You can’t portray the Catholic Church as a blight on the earth, and then feign surprise when Catholics are offended.
Mr. Howard seems to have been living in a dream world, and may just now be waking up.

  3. If Ron Howard is beginning to wish he’d never embarked on this project, I wish the same could be said of Dan Brown, who appears as smug and egotistical as ever.

  4. What it says is he knows exactly what he’s done and how offensive it is — and he is refusing to apologize for it. Basically he’s saying if you don’t like it – don’t watch it. Which is the same thing that pornographers who pollute our society tend to say in defense of the indefensible.

  6. Unfortunately, all the mainstream media reporting is going to get people to go to the movie. Although before this my husband never expressed any interest in reading the book, after watching a report on DVC in today’s morning Japanese news (we have a special dish to receive this one Japanese station), he said that he thinks he should go to the movie just to see what all this hoopla is about! I convinced him not to see it this weekend, and to go to a different movie with me tomorrow night—so that we can do the “othercott”. Perhaps he wants to be able to defend the faith against the movie when he goes to Japan next time and anyone asks him about it.

  7. He wants people to see it so that the movie won’t be a huge failure.
Very tricky — he’s basicallly saying don’t be upset, give me your $16, watch my lame/dull/boring movie, and then decide if you like it because I won’t care whether you like it or not because I’ll have your money!

  8. A bright spot at Cannes.
English nun Sister Mary Michael, 61, was among those waiting to catch a glimpse of the cast.
She was hoping to give them a piece of her mind. The story, which suggests Jesus had a child with Mary Magdalene with their descendants going on to become French kings, was offensive to Catholics, she said.
So she had travelled to Cannes to give the author, Dan Brown, a “spiritual kicking up the backside”.

Right on! I hope the good sister succeeded in her mission. 🙂

  10. Is Howard trying to build up the anti-christian feel of the whole circus by telling Christians to keep away, therefore creating an attraction for those who delight in kicking at the Church and Christ himself?
It’s similar to a film looking for an adult certificate as it will be more of an attraction to some people, especially the immature, who like to show off that they have seen it.
Or possibly he is presenting us with a thinly-veiled dare – if you are not strong enough to see it…

  11. Ode to Richie Cunningham
oh where have my red locks fallen
I have become an empty shell
    my strength drained
    my inspiration lacking
    my desire of truth dead
be the Ron you can be Ron
    shave off those remnants
join Samson, women prefer bald men
    join Samson in blindness

  12. Y’know, we boycotted Catwoman because it wasn’t Selina Kyle and it just looked plain dumb. There were people who boycotted Lord of the Rings because it wasn’t “true to the book” in that 75 part BBC mini series kind of way. My friends and I are boycotting MI3 because we’ve had our fill of Tom Cruise and we wish he’d just shut up and be an obscure, reclusive wierdo instead of an in-your-face weirdo. People can boycott a movie or book or TV series for any reason they please. Comic fans are probably the quickest of any group of people to boycot something. I have a friend who refuses to even watch commercials for Smallville because “that isn’t superman,” according to her. And granted Birds of Prey stunk, but people refused to watch that because Dinah Lance was a teenager instead of an adult. D00d… people can boycot for any reason they like. Sure, an “informed” person would see the movie/read the book/whatever so that they could have intellectual discussions on what they found objectionable in the material… but dude. Seriously. There’re a limited number of hours in the day and a limited number of days in my life, and if I spent all of it taking in literature/films that I thought might suck, just so I can have pedantic and academic discussions on the material, I’d die without ever partaking of the simple joy of sponge bob. Because Sponge Bob is too “safe” and doesn’t “challenge” me. And no, I won’t ask someone else about the movie and base my opinion on theirs. I dont watch a lot of movies because the trailer portrays the movie as something that I would not find enjoyable, or at least a good use of my time/money. I may be a stupid, brainwashed Christian, but I can at least use my time wisely, evne if you think your project is SOOO important, people should watch your movie so that they can have intellectual discussions regarding what they dont agree with. Get off yer high horse, director sir.

  13. The fact is that Ron Howard is heavily invested in the porn industry. It is pretty consistant with producing all that is “unholy”.
