The iPod Pope Makes Leno

Apple_haloJay Leno recently commented on the fact that the pope has an iPod–and apparently uses it.

As part of the segment, he played a (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) "commercial" from Apple based on this fact.

  1. That looked like they were using an African-American to pose as Pope Benedict.
    I’m just saying.

  2. Too bad he is too old to be Pope for more than a couple of years after Benedict.

  3. You know, I could have seen JPII actually cameo in that commercial, but I don’t think the dancing is B16’s style.
    Just a thought.

  4. Notice that Leno said “Our new pope…” Just goes to show how important — even if unconciously — the papacy is even to non-Catholics. No one would say “Our new Dalai Lama” or “Our new Archbishop of Canterbury,” for example.

You mean that wasn’t actually Papa Benedict? Dang! I thought he had some pretty good moves, too!

  6. I was under the impression that Leno was Catholic. Good Italian boy you know.

  7. Yeah, he may very well be a Catholic. But I was referring to his non-exclusive use of the term “our”. He didn’t seem to be saying “we Catholics” but rather “we all of us”. As in, it’s not just the Catholics who have a new pope — the world has a new pope.
I’m just pointing out that intangible universal fatherhood “vibe” that comes from the papacy and seems to be sensed even by non-Catholics (excepting those fundamentalists and leftists who have seizures of rage when they hear the word “Pope.”)
It is an office truly unique in the world.

  8. I always have a little chuckle when people express amazement that the Vatican has a radio station. It’s my understanding that the radio station was the one of the first in the world and dates back to Marconi.

  9. Hmmm…let’s just hope this doesn’t give tacit approval for liturgical dance…

  10. As a Catholic I feel offended seeing that our beloved Pope is ridiculed on Jay Leno’s show, and really I don’t see the humor on it.

  11. I don’t think that Jay Leno is mocking Pope Benedict, at least not this time.

  12. Isn’t it a copyright violation and therefore illegal to publish TV clips on the WWW without permission of the copyright holder?
