At what level does the “discernment process” of other cultures take place?
I’m recalling that the Jesuits when evangelising the Chinese in the 16-17th cent. the Church decided honoring ancestors was not “worship”. Sometime later Rome (and I forget the details) the Church decided ancestor worship really was and the Chinese would have to give it up to be Christians.
