Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. He’s left and trying to get me to leave too and I never will. You are in my prayers as well as all mentioned that all of Heaven will guard you. You all have done and will do serious damage to Hell and will be a main target as so many have in recent times. God bless and 19,000 more years of faith to come for you!

I always found it significant that I returned to the church, still alone and unsure, on the octave of Easter, to the gospel of Doubting Thomas who ends up making his beautiful profession of faith.
I’m grateful you did come into the Church all those years ago. I don’t know that I would ever have given Catholicism a fair shake or a second thought if not for your influence. How I miss having your company within walking distance! God bless your 20th year as a Catholic, Jimmy.

I, too, must claim you as an inspirational factor in my own conversion. I read many of your articles to understand the Catholic position on so many doctrines and disciplines. God bless you! I have a son born just a week after my reception at Easter, so it’s easy to remember my “Catholic age”. LOL He’s 7.

I poke around here and through a lot of your other work as I’m reading my way along Reformation lines, and I thank you for it. Your story is moving, surely, and I appreciate the heart that you poured out in that piece. Oddly, it warmed my heart considerably to see that you grew up in Fayetteville. I am an Arkansan, myself, from the bustling northwest of the state, and knowing that you hail from those lovely parts makes the walk feel a little less lonesome. Heck, I might even try a few of your recipes, though I’ll maintain my suspicions, now that I know you have solid Arkansas roots. Thanks for sharing.
