Claim: To Prevent Migraines, Drink More Water

I’m fortunate in that I don’t get migranes (or headaches in general, for that matter), but I know those who do can suffer terribly, so I thought I’d pass this along in case it’s of help to anyone.

One word of caution: Drinking a lot of fluid *can* raise your blood pressure, so if you have high blood pressure, you may want to think through the cost/benefit possibilities.

  1. Herbal tea containing cinnamon can help with headaches– it’s also supposed to help with blood pressure. (I know that if I have a headache, unless I’m dehydrated, drinking water makes it worse. Eating cinnamon candy helps; go figure….)
I have a suspicion that between the different types of headaches, the placebo effect and the “how to cure hiccups” effect (ever notice that all hiccup cures work…eventually?), almost EVERYTHING works for headaches!

  2. But don’t drink plain water too much, it might affect your fluid balance negatively and cause headache instead of preventing it. Drink mineral water if you need to drink much.

  3. Let’s offer up the migraines and headaches throughout the world to the greater glory of God and for the salvation of souls.

  4. U would have to drink A LOT of water to raise ur blood pressure, or alter ur electrolytes. Unless u have kidney disease. Salt is what raises ur blood pressure, since it is what determines ur total body water content.

  5. I have suffered from migraines since childhood. I’m also allergic to many medications so there’s not a lot I can do except try to identify triggers and avoid them, offer them up (of course!) and try various low-key natural remedies. Not all migraines are created equal, so each person must decide what might help their migraines. I did find out on my own that a dose of ibuprofin or a single acetominophen with a single aspirin with, over the course of a few hours, several glasses of water and a 12 ounce can of pepsi would help shorten a 14 hour killer to a 6 or 8 hour pain I could work through.
The biggest problem with many migraines is that one person’s relief is another person’s trigger, and sufferers have to learn to listen to their bodies very carefully.
