Some Folks DO Want To Make Halloween Too Scary

In fact, they want to SCARE CHILDREN AWAY FROM HALLOWEEN.

Jack Chick, for example.

  1. So since Jack Chick hates it it must be good! That’s a rather weak apologia implied or not.
If we look at the holiday in the case of scandal, that is that there are sincere people that are put off by Halloween and if we can’t find a definate good provided by it, then why celebrate? And if, as Michelle’s post pointed out, it in anyway harms children, why continue?

  2. Perhaps there is some redeeming quality to “Hallow E’en”.
Besides being the evening of All Saints Day (a holy day), if we can take a night that took on evil properties and reclaim it for it’s true meaning, it makes sense to participate in it.
Isn’t October 30th more known as “Devil’s Night”, rather than October 31st? If that’s truly the case (and I believe it is), then, Jack got a whole bunch wrong … the least of which is his rail against Halloween (October 31st/November 1st).

  3. That was an excellent link, Matt. I was thinking along those lines myself.
BTW- For the record, Jack Chick isn’t all wrong about Halloween. It does have some sort of special meaning for witches. It is supposed to have the same significance as New Year’s Day does to us. (Although, there are no Satanic sacrifices of course).
And anyway, Oct.31 doesn’t really have any significance at all to Satanists. July 15 is supposed to be their big day.

  4. Reading the comments on the post you linked to was quite interesting. I was tempted to chime in, but thought better of it.
