Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. I was born on Thanksgiving Day, so my birthday is always closely associated with the holiday.
One year, we decided to drive up to Utah to visit our family for Thanksgiving. I slept most of the day but when I finally woke up, on my birthday, we were driving through the painted desert.
    Best birthday present ever.

  2. Is Jimmy using his camera phone for these shots? ‘Cos there’re mighty good-lookin’ for a camera phone!

  3. That is a pretty picture. I’ve rarely been west (or south) of Colorado. I need to do more exploring.
My b-day is on the 22nd. I enjoy telling people I get 2 days off work for my bday (since I get Thanksgiving and Fri. off). At least once in a while.

  4. I flew over this on Sunday on my way home from Dallas. (20 year college reunion!) We had a gorgeous view all the way across and I finally got to see the grand canyon and painted desert. I’d like a closer view next time, but it was amazing to see.
