Fr. Philip, according to the dictionary you have to BE a Southerner first in order to be a scalawag.
I was born in the Southern Philippines, farther south than Mississippi.

Actually, I was using the term “scalawag” in its earlier historical sense of “scamp”, which was around before the meaning that emerged after The Late Unpleasantness.

Hmmmmmm…interesting, but untrue. How do I know? I’ve asked the thousands upon thousands of Yankees (the people not the team) who move to Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, and Miami every year to get away from the North.
Now, I would gladly move to Boston or NYC for the weather. As a (ahem) larger friar I do not care for my native region’s hot, humid climate. It was 82 in Dallas on Christmas Day! That’s just wrong, wrong, wrong.
