MERRY CHRISTMAS, ALL!

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. Merry CHRISTmas (Even though it’s already 9:45P.M. of December 25 here at the time of writing), Mr. Jimmy and Everyone!

  2. John Betjeman ‘Christmas’ verses 6 & 8 says it for me
    And is it true,
This most tremendous tale of all,
    Seen in a stained-glass window’s hue,
    A Baby in an ox’s stall ?
The Maker of the stars and sea
Become a Child on earth for me ?

No love that in a family dwells,
    No carolling in frosty air,
    Nor all the steeple-shaking bells
Can with this single Truth compare –
That God was man in Palestine
And lives today in Bread and Wine.

  3. Merry Christmas
    also Happy Kwanza
I love the ole Caribbean song:
“I don’t care what the white man says but Santa Claus is a Black man”

  4. There is some legitimacy to the complaint that the images of Mary and Jesus look German or Nordic and while the claim that they are Black (as in African West Black) is not solid, they are probably more swarthy and Meditarranean looking than most Medeival or Rennaisance art.
I do believe we can anthroprorhpize our images of Jesus as the Church did like some of the Chinese and and Native American images of Jesus and Mary.

  5. Regardless of race, color, ethnicity (although not regardless of religion or sexual orientation)
Jesus is the Savior of all, all races, and the Catholic Church is the Church of all, the Universal Church
Blessed Christmas, let us emulate the Magi, the Sheperds, and emulate most Joseph and Mary when they said Let it be done according to Thy Will

  6. Bill912 I would of banned you except some of your recent posts have been brilliant. Usually don’t like you but I thought your comparing the Pope to Jesus was incredible (in a good sense)
Leave Calvin alone he ain’t hurting no one.

  7. Mele Kalikimaka from Hawai`i nei.
Merry Christmas from the beloved Hawai`i island!
It is only 6:00pm Hawai`i time but most of you are probably already in bed dreaming of the magi slowly making their way to the Christ Child…so sweet dreams to all…we on the other hand are off to pray and play for a few more hours before settling down to Christmas dinner! It been a sunny, warm, perfect day!
Praise and glorify the Father for the gift of His Son.
God’s grace and peace be yours.

  8. Michael Anglada,
Give me one good reason to ban bill912, who is a good, upstanding servant of the people, and I’ll give you ten reasons not to.

  9. It’s still the Christmas season, so:
    Merry Christmas!
    ¡Feliz Navidad!
    Fröhliche Weihnachten!
    Joyeux Noël!
    Buon Natale!
    Nollaig Shona Dhaoibh!
    Mele Kalikimaka!

  10. thank you to all 🙂
Blessed Christmas Octave to all of you!
and a most joyous, peaceful, happy and “obedient to Christ” 2007 to each of you.
