Blog Day Off

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

BTW, the phrase: “Somebody set up us the bomb.,” when pronounced backwards, comes out: “Bomb the U.S. Upset somebody.” me no thought coinkidink.

  3. Edward,
Darn you for that link! I just wasted a bunch of time on the Engrish site! I guess all I can say is God breath you!

  4. Hey Jimmy,
Michael Crichton’s new book has already been released. Do you (or anyone of your readers) intend to read it?

  5. Greetings Brazilian Lurker,
Jimmy has noted that he doesn’t always read these posts. I would guess the probability of him reading this set to be very low, since he took the day off. So you ought to send him an email with a request. My wife recently read it and it seemed thought-provoking. I find alot of Crichton’s books interesting, even if he likes to cash in on movies (not that there’s anything wrong with that…!) and his writing style is rather hurried. My wife and I always laugh about how the action has to take place in 3 days with no sleep, apparently.

  6. The inmates are running the asylum :o)
    Inmates???
More like the Personality Cult of David B.! ;^)

  7. Curious,
Thanks for answering me. I read Jimmy’s blog since its beggining, and by the time Jimmy wrote that I also couldn’t read all the comments anymore. I thought he meant he couldn’t read comments when there is a lot of them on the same post, and we can still see his comments here every once in a while. I only asked because he reviwed Crichton’s previous book, but I don’t think this is important enough to send him an e-mail.

  8. “….the Personality Cult of David B.!”
WAIT JUST A MINUTE!!!!!!!! I have a Personality Cult ? I have two reactions:
    1) Wicked cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    2) Who is the loser who started that? *I* wouldn’t even join my own Personality Cult!!!!!!!!!

  9. Who is the loser who started that?
    I’m the loser, I’m the loser!!! :^P
You should be thankful — after all, I’m not only the person who spread word about your personality cult, David B., but I’m also its president!
    ;^)

  10. Jeff, you are missing on your blog roster perhaps the best new Catholic blog available to readers “Guided Missal”. http://www.jeffrey-michael.com. While sparse in the frequency of its entries, the pure writing and creativity is the best of any active Catholic blog online, and possesses a radicalism that we could all use to jump start the intellect. As a frequent visitor to many sites, I hope you will include this one, if not shamelessly promote its visitation.
    In Him,
    Joseph

  11. Esau,
“I’m the loser, I’m the loser!!!”
    Oooooooooooohhhhhhhh. Sorry. 🙂
“You should be thankful — after all, I’m not only the person who spread word about your personality cult, David B., but I’m also its president!”
Why should I be pleased at discovering that Idolatry is done towards me?!! 😛

  12. COLTS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!!! YEE HAW!!!
    Jimmy,
If you see this, could you give an official CHT to Peyton Manning?

  13. Why should I be pleased at discovering that Idolatry is done towards me?!! 😛
Is that why you said: Wicked cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. If you actually think that a whole gang of folks gathering together, throwing darts at your picture and burning effigies of your person is considered idolatry, then so be it! ;^)

  14. Esau,
“If you actually think that a whole gang of folks gathering together, throwing darts at your picture and burning effigies of your person is considered idolatry, then so be it!”
I always say, “better to have enemies who hate for who you truly are than friends who love you for what you truly have never been.”

  15. I always say, “better to have enemies who hate for who you truly are than friends who love you for what you truly have never been.”
You just had to resort once again to one of your witty comebacks!
    God bless, brother!

  16. Esau,
“You just had to resort once again to one of your witty comebacks!”
    I couldn’t resist, mate.
    “God bless, brother!”
    Same to you, my friend!
