Just Passing By

CHT to the reader who sent THIS MOVIE of the moon passing in front of the sun. The film is taken in extreme ultra violet light, and it’s really quite striking to watch it in motion–striking enough to make it NASA’s astronomy picture of the day on Saturday.

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. …their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.

  2. I think the fact that we can get such footage is almost as amazing as the footage itself. Thanks for posting this!

  3. Neato! I’ll have to show the girls! We were blessed to watch the lunar eclipse the other night on our way home from Florida. As it climaxed, we were driving directly towards it, and we had a terrific view right out the front of the car. I only wish I could have taken some pictures of it. It was beautiful!

  4. Amazing picture.
“The heavens are telling the glory of God…and all creation is shouting for joy”
One of “those” songs (Haugen) that I happen to like and actually is apt.

  5. Don’t you mean the Eye of Saurrrrron?
    My bad!
Thanks David B. for the correction there!

  6. Thank you mister astronomer to take up your telescope time, booked months in advance, for this color photo instead of your personal research of more useful black and white spectral readouts.
