Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. You traveled back in time to when they were constructing the Lincoln Memorial?

Huh??? They had forklifts during those days???

Sorry, sometimes I get my time-travel mixed up. Jimmy obviously went forward in time to when they’re reconstructing the Lincoln Monument. Looking at the picture more closely, that’s obviously a fusion-cell powered forklift. And apparently global warming is real, the national mall looks very arid in the future.

  4. No, Jimmy went forward in time 100 years, to the rebuilding of the Supreme Court Building.
The court, stacked by a bunch of leftists, ruled that a certain terrorist would be released from prison, despite his confession that he’s a terrorist, and planned to bomb the SCOTUS building. The next day after release, he drove a bomb laden truck into the court building. The president and congress then elected 9 strong Catholic strict constructionists to the SCOTUS, and also additional ones to the other federal appeals courts, and sanity returned to the legal system.

  5. (Would that BobCatholic were right!)
If that happens, would the “C” in “C-SPAN” stand for ‘Catholic’?

  6. The Parthenonon on top of the Acropolis. And to the left (out of the picture) is the Aereopogus.

  7. The Parthenon under construction.
Continuing labor disputes have slowed completion of the Pagan Worship Center for over 2,000 years.

…Due to the senate debate over environmental impact studies.

That place doesn’t look handicap accessible, better tear it down and start over.

What I know is, why the boot in all the pictures?
    Inside joke, family tradition?

  11. Inside joke.
What I want to know is, how do the other tourists look at you when you get into these awkward poses to take pictures?

  12. Jimmy has rigged a boot (along with the leg from an old pair of jeans) on a pole to facilitate his now widely recognized trademark photographic style.
This proves that he has actually visted the sites in the photos.
Unless… he has lent the pole apparatus to some associate, or other. Or perhaps he has commissioned the making of any number of JA Boot Props, and is in reality taking a couple of weeks off relaxing at home and watching DVDs of Babylon 5 and Firefly while enjoying a variety of low-carb snacks and commenting anonymously in his own combox – pausing only to brush up on his square dance calling skills.
    Hey, it could happen.

  13. Anyone who can’t get through Babylon 5 in a week and Firefly in a day is simply a wimp!

  14. Must be the Acropolypse!
(someone asked me if I’d seen this site after I returned from a visit to Greece. We loved the malapropism.)

  15. Jimmy: “Sir, would you like to put these blue pants on? Yes just like that.. Ok, now put the boot on. Good. Now sit down and put your leg out just like that! Perfect! Ok…” SNAP. Done.

  16. Looks like you’re hitting some of the clubs Shaquille O’Neal visited when he was over there…lucky for you, you brought a camera to help you remember!
[“I can’t really remember the names of the clubs that we went to.”
-Shaquille O’Neal on whether he had visited the Parthenon during his visit to Greece]

  17. It’s the League of Justice in a parallel universe!!!
Don’t you mean The Halls of Justice (or something like that)?

  18. Jimmy, now you need to come to Nashville to see our version. It’s not all busted up like the old one. 😉
